Memorial Day, 2014

memorialday2Memorial Day, isn’t just a time for cook-outs, and hangin at the beach, although that’s what we do with the day off from work.

Memorial day was created originally as Remembrance Day to allow the chance of placing flowers onto the graves of the soldiers who fought in the War Between The States. as it evolved, Congress then chose the last Monday in May (The original date was May 30th ) and chose to re-name the the holiday as we know it now.

But today isn’t just about remembering the soldiers of the civil war. It’s about remembering all of our soldiers who’ve fought, and paid the ultimate price for freedom.

I’m just a little ole blogger/DJ, and not as…well educated as some folks, but more than one General has made this point, and I’d like to share it with you.

Today we live in an era where we’ve had a military operation going on for over 20 years. That’s the longest operation in any theater in US history. Operation Desert Storm, which started back in 1991 is still in current status, with US air Force, and Navy planes conducting flights on a daily basis. Not to mention 2 world wars, Korea, Vietnam, The Falklands,  And currently our soldiers are engaged in Iraq, and Afghanistan. These brave men and women have chosen to serve, and if need be pay the ultimate price for freedom. They are the lifeblood of America, and today, we thank them for their service.

Take a moment today, and remember that freedom doesn’t come free. What started back in the 1700’s we still fight for today. Thank a soldier. Shake their hand, and remember the ones we’ve lost. Because at the end of the day, we enjoy the things they fought, and sacrificed their lives for.

I’m thankful to them for giving me the chance to do what I do.
