Kasem’s daughter Kerri placed this as a Facebook status yesterday:
”Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends,” wrote Kerri. “Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad. With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie.”
Now to a little ole blogger/DJ like myself of a small net Radio Station, I have to admit, Casey was an idol of mine. Casey gave us the best in music every week with his syndicated shows. His catchphrases, and that distinctive voice were all you needed to get sucked in to a 4 hour romp each Sunday afternoon as Casey brought you the best from the billboard charts. Casey’s career spanned 7 decades, but the 80’s is where Casey was the hottest ticket in the land. He introduced us to Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, and so many more musicians.
I’ll miss those romps, and his ‘Long Distance Dedications’. Kasem wasn’t just a radio personality, he was almost a friend when he came in to your home each week. And, for that, I’ll forever be grateful.
Rest Well Casey. You finally met the stars.
To his family, we here at The Den express our deepest condolences. and hope that the healing can now begin for all of you.
