Be Very Alert! – By Val Hollard (NZ)

LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS
The world is going crazy and worse is to come. This last year has seen a rapid rise in many things that the Bible foretells of the last days. Moreover, we can expect an even greater speeding up in 2015. So get your seatbelts fastened, or better, keep that belt of truth tight around you.
There is one recent trend which I can see escalating rapidly which is of particular concern. God claims Israel as His land and for the nations to divide it up is to poke God right in the eye.
“In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.” (Joel 3)
Very recently, the nations have started dividing Israel by recognising a Palestinian State, on paper if not in practise yet, but that will come.
The Palestinians are seeking statehood In Gaza and the Israeli-held “West Bank,” with East Jerusalem as its capital. They see this as a step towards claiming all of Israel. With so many failed peace talks, they have decided to speed up the process by lobbying nations for international recognition and are tasting success.
At the end of October, Sweden’s government began the wave of Western European countries voting to recognise a Palestinian state. The Swedish government then fell. The British and Spanish legislatures and the upper house of the Irish parliament have now passed similar resolutions. The French parliament has recently voted in favour of a nonbinding resolution supporting the recognition of a Palestinian state.
After France, the next country likely to make a move toward recognizing “Palestine” is Belgium, though no date has been set in Parliament for a debate. The European Parliament is grappling with the issue and the parliaments of Portugal and Denmark may join them soon. In the European debate, members were sharply divided with one lawmaker branding Israel “a state of child killers and land robbers” while another likened a Palestinian state to the Islamic State terrorist group.
Khaled Abu Toameh (Gatestone Institute) says it is important to keep in mind that the counties in Europe now voting for a Palestinian state may effectively be paving the way for a takeover by the Islamic State.
Israel sees these measures as dangerous, as the Palestinians will get the feeling that if they just wait long enough, and push hard enough, the international community will vote a Palestinian state into existence without them having to reach an agreement with Israel. Isn’t this just what Joel tells us? Watch what happens in 2015. We are truly living in the last days.
New Zealand looks set to place itself in a very uncomfortable position as far as prophesy goes. Earlier this year, it won a temporary seat on the UN Security Council beginning in January 2015. New Zealand is expected to focus on Security Council reform, in particular the abolition or downgrading of the veto rights enjoyed by the five permanent members. In the past, the US has consistently used this veto to prevent any decisions that would adversely affect Israel. With that veto removed, the Palestinians could acquire statehood quite rapidly without Israel having any say about its land being divided up. God will not be pleased about His land being divided, and it may well bring heavier judgment on our land.
JUST AS IN THE DAYS OF LOT (Luke 17:28-30)
When Jesus tells His disciples what His second coming will be like, He tells them it will be just as in the days of Lot. Homosexuality had reached such a height that God was forced to intervene and destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, but Lot was rescued out of it. (Genesis 19)
David Cloud of Way of Life says that if homosexuals are given every right they are now demanding, we will be robbed of many liberties that we enjoy now. His evidence is based on examples already happening. Here are his conclusions.
Cloud says that when homosexuals gain their rights:
- You won’t be able to say anything that might appear biased against homosexuality.
- A Bible-believing Christian won’t be able to work in the field of counselling.
- You won’t be able to conduct ministries to help homosexuals leave that lifestyle.
- You won’t be able to use the terms father/mother, husband/wife.
- You won’t be able to refuse to serve homosexuals in your business.
- You won’t be able to turn down a homosexual for a job.
- You won’t be able to enforce public nudity laws.
- You won’t be able to tell the truth about the moral degradation of homosexuals.
- You won’t be able to have women-only public restrooms.
- You won’t be able to refuse to place children with homosexual couples.
- You won’t be able to stop homosexuals from having public sex.
- You won’t be able to recommend books that criticize homosexuals.
There are numerous examples of these things taking place. As a result, dozens of Bible-believing Christians in Western nations have been fired, fined, asked to pay damages for suffering, accused of hate crimes, threatened, sent for diversity sensitivity training, asked to apologise, and passed over for promotion or pay rises. Unfortunately, many Christians will compromise.
We should not be surprised that these things are happening. It will get much, much worse. But it is a sure sign that the return of our Lord cannot be far off.
WANDERLUST – The rise of the New Age – beware!
My regional paper has produced a four-page article on ‘Wanderlust.’ “A smash-hit United states yoga and lifestyle festival is coming to New Zealand for the first time.” It’s described as a kind of a “travelling ashram/Burning Man/music festival… with yoga (including the most dangerous kundalini form), motivational speakers, art and music. You can get up at 6:30am for a chakra cleanse, then do some stand-up paddle board yoga. There is a waiting list for the week-long event at Taupo.
HANUKKAH – THE FEAST OF DEDICATION (John 10:22-23)
This year Hanukkah celebrations begin on the eve of 16th December. Jesus attended this feast as it was an important part of the Jewish calendar, with prophetic significance. In Matthew 24, He refers to events which led to the first Hanukkah, the abomination of desolation, as being something that will be repeated in some way in the last days. Daniel also refers to this event, saying that in the middle of the last seven years, the ruler to come (the Antichrist) will set up an abomination of desolation in a wing of the coming temple. When the Jews in Judea see this, they are told to flee, as a time of great tribulation is coming, unequalled from the beginning of the world until now. Jeremiah describes it as “the time of Jacob’s trouble.” (Jer 30:7) But God is faithful and keeps His promises. A remnant of Israel will be saved out of it and will become a holy nation, set apart for the Lord.
Hanukkah is also known as the Jewish Festival of Lights. It is also believed to be the time of Jesus’ conception. Jesus came to earth to bring light to a world that was in darkness.
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 5-7) Jesus alone is the light of the world.
ARE YOU MEDITATING ON OUR WONDERFUL SAVIOUR? – Mike Gendron
As we meditate on our great God and Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, let us ponder the majesty of His creation, the riches of His grace, the cleansing power of His blood, the perfection of His righteousness, the necessity of His mercy, the faithfulness of His love, the blessings of His redemption, the greatness of His power, the authority of His word, the purity of His Gospel, the sufficiency of His atonement, the miracle of His resurrection, the need for His intercession, the promise of His inheritance, the assurance of His promises, and the glory of His second coming. Meditating on the Lord Jesus will keep our heart and mind stayed upon Him. As we behold the glory of the Lord, we “are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18).
Pope Francis deluded about Islam: Francis says that equating Islam with violence was wrong and has called on Muslim leaders to issue a global condemnation of terrorism to help dispel the stereotype. Francis said, “They (Muslims) say: ‘No, we are not this, the Koran is a book of peace, it is a prophetic book of peace’.”
Note that Muslims who say they are peaceful are frightened to speak out as they know they will be condemned by Muslims faithful to the Qur’an which tells them to chop off the heads of infidels and not to take Jews and Christians as friends.
On his recent trip to Turkey, Francis prayed alongside Ankara’s Grand Mufti at Istanbul’s Blue Mosque. The Catholic News Agency called it a moment of “interreligious dialogue” which mirrored that of his predecessor. I suspect Francis would welcome the Antichrist as a peaceful Muslim!
Waiting for the economic collapse: Michael Snyder points out that there has only been one other time in history when the price of oil crashed by more than 40 dollars in less than 6 months. The last time was during the second half of 2008. The beginning of that oil price crash preceded the great financial collapse that happened later that year. A falling oil price is a sign of economic activity slowing down. It destabilises financial markets. Note too that the Chinese economy has just overtaken the United States economy to become the largest in the world.
How about a McDonald’s in a church? The McMass Project aims to attract more worshippers through the lure of McDonald’s burgers and fries. The project is the brainchild of Paul Di Lucca, a creative director at the church branding agency Lux Dei Design. Funds are now being raised for the project. A church is also being sought to partner with.
As this will be the last Alert! for about 6 or 7 weeks as I take a break, I take this opportunity to wish you all a joyous and blessed Christmas/Hanukkah and a prosperous New Year. Whatever you do, don’t let other issues rob you of your main focus: your relationship and walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and the longing for His appearing.
Don’t forget to be good Bereans. I am not infallible and do change my mind about things from time to time. But it is my great desire to see you all fully prepared for what is coming and to be kept on the narrow way, so that you will receive a joyous reception when you reach your final home.
I especially wish to thank those who have given generous encouragement and have prayed for this ministry.
May God bless you all!
