GOD’S WISDOM IS FAR HIGHER THAN OUR WISDOM
I used to be a pacifist. Then I became a Christian and listened to some of David Pawson’s tapes and saw that some wars (not all) are necessary and that God can also use them for His purposes.
Anzac Day is just behind us and has been commemorated by many thousands throughout the country, respecting those who have fallen to help us keep our freedom and liberty, including our freedom of religion.
Not all agree that some wars have a purpose. Waikato Times commentator Peter Dornauf decries all the effort Peter Jackson and his team put into the Te Papa Museum display as helping to commemorate a war that took place for no good reason as in the process 10 million perished and 20 million were wounded – some of them maimed for life. He says the soldiers didn’t die for us. “They died because of incompetent leaders, false values, their own naivety and mistaken ideals, because the world at that time was morally bankrupt, mad and criminally insane.”
The question we need to ask is, were the two World Wars and their outcomes solely a result of the senselessness of naive human beings and unnecessary, or were they some part of God’s greater plans? If we look at the outcomes, we see clearly how God has used them. We may abhor war, but God’s wisdom and ways are far higher than ours and He can use wars to bring about a greater good.
To put it briefly, WWI freed up the land of Israel for the Jew’s future occupation in the years ahead. From the end of the 19th century, Jews had started returning to Palestine and began the arduous task of clearing mosquito infested swamps and preparing the land for the eventual return of the Jews in large numbers.
After WWI, most Jews around the world were comfortable to varying degrees in their host countries, especially in Europe, and God had to do something to get them to Palestine. The Holocaust of WWII helped the world see the need of a Jewish state and on November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 called for the partition of the British-ruled Palestine Mandate into a Jewish state (now called Israel) and an Arab state: 33 nations voted in favour (including NZ), 13 against (mainly Arab), and 10 abstained (including Great Britain).
God has always said that He would bring His people back again for a final time. This resurrection of Israel is described in the “dry bones” chapter of Ezekiel 37. Indeed, Israel’s survival is like a resurrection from the grave! But they have been brought back in unbelief. Most Jews are secular.
Many feel that WWIII will come soon. God must allow something to turn the hearts of His people Israel back to Him as a nation. This war is described in Zechariah 12. God will allow nations to come up against Jerusalem so that their only hope will be to turn to Him and He will have compassion on them. He will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all nations and those who try to remove it will injure themselves. Israel will be supernaturally empowered. Then they will recognize their Messiah, mourn, and be healed of all their impurities and sin.
The nations are certainly preparing for war. According to a news report, the Middle East is facing a burgeoning arms race which in 2015 is expected to include weapons’ purchases totalling an unprecedented $18 billion. The top buyers are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, United Arab Emirates and Algeria.
In an article originally published in the Washington Times, the writers warn that the Iran nuclear “deal” will lead to billions in terror funding as the “deal” is actually a disaster. Massive sanctions relief will provide Iran with billions of dollars in new revenue which will be used to fund its long-standing campaigns of international terrorism. Iran backs Syria’s Assad regime, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, Shia forces in Yemen, and proxies across the globe. Even though the deal is still to be finalized, Tehran has already given Hamas tens of millions of dollars, enabling it to replenish their stocks of missiles and rebuild terror tunnels into Israel. Flush with new money, Hamas has opened 18 terrorist training camps.
There is an ultimate war coming too, and God tells the nations to prepare for it: “Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack. Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weakling say, “I am strong!” Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble there.” (Joel 3:9-11)
This war before Jesus finally takes up David’s throne in Jerusalem will be very one-sided. It is described in Psalm 2. The crazed kings of the earth actually attempt to make war with God and His Son Jesus. It is also described in Revelation 19:19-21. “Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse (Jesus) and His army.” Down through history, Satan has made numerous unsuccessful attempts to destroy the line of David and all Jews. This will be his last-ditch effort to prevent the millennial reign of Jesus. There will be no deaths in the army of Jesus, but the satanic-inspired armies of the nations will be totally destroyed by Jesus. Not good news for Dornauf!
But praise the Lord, a day is coming when there will be war no more. “The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against a nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” (Isa 2:3-4)
The armies of the nations are now preparing themselves for a great war at a rapid rate at the cost of many billions of dollars. God has warned us in advance. We may not like what is happening, but we can rest assured that God is in total control.
AMERICA’S CRACKDOWN ON CHRISTIANS
The rate at which American Christians are having their freedoms restricted is appalling. We should be thankful for our freedom of religion in New Zealand but this situation may not continue.
Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidate and governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007 is also an ordained Southern Baptist minister. At a recent conference attended by conservative pastors, he said, “I think it’s fair to say that Christian convictions are under attack as never before, not just in our lifetime, but never before in the history of this great republic.” And, “We are moving rapidly toward the criminalization of Christianity – where it’s not simply going to be that a church’s tax-exempt status is threatened,” he said. “But, more importantly, where criminal charges for a person who defies a new government norm, a new legal norm and that is a homosexual orientation becomes a protected class.”
Early in President Obama’s tenure in the White House, he began what appeared to be a deliberate attack on the Constitution’s “freedom of religion” protections. He now refers to “freedom of worship” which has totally different implications. Now when new immigrants are tested on their knowledge of the Constitution the term “freedom of worship” is used instead.
“Freedom of religion” is now under fire. Numerous instances have been recorded. One area is where Christian locations are no longer used for weddings because discrimination complaints have been filed following the denial of the facilities for same-sex weddings. Other Christian providers of wedding services, such as florists, have also been forced to close.
The US Supreme Court is currently considering same-sex marriages. A group of prominent Christian leaders have threatened civil disobedience if gay marriage is legalized throughout the US. The Court has been listening to arguments regarding the 14th Amendment which would require states to issue same-sex marriage licenses. The lead-attorney representing Obama has admitted that if the court were to rule in favour of making same-sex marriage a constitutional right, it would create a religious liberty “issue” for faith-based schools and institutions, who could be at risk of losing their tax-exempt statuses. Many organisations providing social assistance to the poor would have far less money available for their work.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told attendees at the 2015 Women in The World Summit that deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed for the sake of giving women access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth. In connection with abortion, she castigated religious Americans whose faith teaches them that such a deadly procedure is sinful. Her speech received a mixed reception. There is a possibility that Clinton will replace Obama in the 2016 Presidential election.
The early church suffered persecution, and it will come to today’s church too.
In the US, Christians are being forced to leave the military because of the increasing crackdown on the free religious expression of Christians in uniform. Military chaplains have been disciplined for dispensing biblical counsel. The list includes an Air Force senior master sergeant whose career is in doubt after he voiced support for traditional marriage. A commanding officer in the US Army is fighting back after complaining that heterosexual soldiers are being treated unfairly compared to homosexuals. And they say this is just the tip of the iceberg. Many young Americans and their parents are reconsidering serving in the military and enlistment numbers are expected to drop.
Waking volcanoes: Around the world, volcanoes that have been long dormant have been waking up. It is puzzling scientists. Fortunately, most of the eruptions have been relatively small. According to Volcano Discovery, there are 36 volcanoes active at the moment.
The last VEI 7 (huge!) eruption was of Mount Tambora in Indonesia in 1815. It resulted in a “year without a summer” and created a famine around the world. With today’s far greater populations and the fact that food production is barely keeping up with the world’s needs, another such eruption would be catastrophic.
Turkey and Violence. When asked to name the world’s most violent religion, 45% of Turks cited Christianity and 42% Judaism, with only 2% saying it was Islam. This year, banners appeared proclaiming, “We celebrate the 100th anniversary of our country being cleansed of (Christian) Armenians.” Turkish Jews are labelled as foreigners and are subject to hate speech and threats on an almost daily basis whenever there is a crisis between Israel and the Palestinians.
Michael Snyder has revealed some shocking statistics about abortion. Today, the US has the highest abortion rate in the entire western world. More than 56 million babies have been aborted since 1973. About one-third of all American women will have had an abortion by the age of 45. In New York City, 42 percent of all pregnancies end in abortion. Most women who get abortions in the US claim to be Christians: Protestant women 42%, Catholic women 27%. 86% of all abortions are done for the sake of convenience.
Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood once wrote, “The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
A January 2012 Department of Homeland Security report stated that anyone that is “anti-abortion” is a potential terrorist. Since that time, others have supported that view.
