Unlike futurists who believe that a lot of prophecy is yet to be fulfilled, preterists believe that most of prophecy has been fulfilled in the past, especially around the time of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman army in 70 AD. Preterists differ in how much they believe has happened in the past and how much is future.

Chuck and Karen Cohen of Watchmen of Jerusalem write, “There is a current teaching in many churches and ministries that God is gathering His people back to the land and then will allow a second Holocaust – some say it will even be worse than the first – to befall them.” They then describe Daniel’s 70th week from a pretribulation perspective where the Antichrist will make a peace treaty with Israel which he will break half way through the seven years and then start a war with them in which two-thirds will die – the time of Jacob’s trouble, Jeremiah 30:7.

The Cohen’s question why God would bring His people home and allow this. They say it is sloppy exegesis as Jacob’s trouble and the two-thirds cut-off has already happened. They claim that the verses in Jeremiah 30 indicate that Jacob’s trouble occurs before Israel comes back to the land and before Israel becomes an independent nation again. “The event that seems to be the climactic fulfilment was the demonically inspired Nazi Holocaust. Jacob’s trouble has been fulfilled.” Others would claim that Jacob’s trouble was fulfilled in 70 AD and Nero was the Antichrist.

As a result, many ministries bringing Jews back to Israel believe they are bringing them back for a blessing, not to have two-thirds killed. A popular Scripture with such people is Isaiah 40:1-2: “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God; Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”

Preterists claim they take the Bible literally, but they are left with a problem of how to explain certain texts. There are dozens of prophecies relating to the end times and in particular to Israel which have never been fulfilled.

World War II never lasted for 7 years. (Dan 9:27) Nor is there a distinct period of 7 years around 70 AD. Israel did not rebuild the Temple during World War II and reinstate the sacrificial service.

Those in Judea never fled to a place in the mountains for 3½ years.

Israel did not conclude a covenant with the Antichrist (allegedly Nero/Hitler) as the true Messiah.

The Antichrist did not declare himself to be God in a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem.

WW II or 70 AD was not immediately followed by the second coming of Christ.

The Antichrist (allegedly Nero/Hitler) was not consumed by the brightness of the Messiah’s second coming (2 Thes 2:8) and cast into the lake of fire (Rev 19:20).

Neither AD 70 nor World War II led to Israel’s national salvation.

In AD 70 and World War II, all the nations were not united in a war against Israel and Jerusalem. In WWII Jews were mainly persecuted and killed by Germany’s Nazi forces. No pressure was made to accept the 666 mark of the beast.

The kings of the East did not invade the Middle East with 200 million soldiers (Rev 9:13-19) and the Euphrates River never dried up.

And in Matthew 24:28-29: “Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.” This obviously did not happen in 70 AD or after the Holocaust.

Looking at the facts, it is obvious that these prophecies have yet to be fulfilled.

Preterists believe that though there could be some scuffles on Israel’s borders, Israel is now at peace and prospering and Jews will be blessed there if they return.

Israel is not actually being as blessed as many other countries. Israelis pay huge taxes, Israel spends huge amounts on defence to keep a step ahead of its enemies and the margin is rapidly decreasing, many live in fear of rockets coming over the borders and jihad attacks, and Israel needs extensive bomb shelters.

Israel is also a very immoral country. The Israeli Knesset has held its first-ever LGBT Rights Day with support from Prime Minister Netanyahu. In Tel Aviv, nearly 30 transgender women strutted down the catwalk in skinny jeans, crop tops and stiletto heels at a Tel Aviv club, vying for a chance to enter the first “Miss Trans Israel” beauty pageant. Tel Aviv has emerged as one of the world’s most gay-friendly travel destinations, standing in sharp contrast to most of the rest of the Middle East, where gays can face persecution.

God, in a single day, wiped out the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah as a testament to how He feels about homosexuality. How can God not judge Israel severely before they are redeemed? There is no redemption without repentance.

In Deuteronomy 18:18 God says about Moses, “I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.” At His first coming, Jesus accused the Jewish hierarchy of not believing what Moses said or they would believe Him. Israel as a nation still does not believe what Moses said, and God will call them to account. There will be a time of Jacob’s trouble, and like the original Jacob who wrestled with the angel of the Lord, Jesus, through a dark night, Israel will wrestle with Jesus through a dark night before they finally accept Him.

There are so many different views by Christians about the end times that it makes you wonder what will happen when the last seven years begin and the Antichrist appears. (Dan 9:27) Of course, there are those who follow Rick Warren and his peace plan (without the Prince of Peace) and have been told to ignore prophecy. They won’t have a clue what is happening and will most likely follow the Antichrist and rejoice in his plan of false peace.

The Dominionists believe that it is their job to take over the world and remove the curse before Jesus will return. They will most likely see the Antichrist as helping their cause. The Preterists who believe everything or almost everything has happened in the past will also fall for the Antichrist as they are not expecting him. They believe that Nero or Hitler was the Antichrist. Both these groups will be pleased as it will seem as if Israel is being blessed by God with peace and prosperity as they will be allowed to rebuild the temple under the Antichrist. All the Jews they have brought back to Israel and to whom they have not given a gospel of repentance and belief in Jesus Christ will also think they are being blessed and all those wonderful promises from their Scripture are being fulfilled. They will be totally unprepared for the trouble coming.

Most Catholics are expecting the world to fall under the religious jurisdiction of the pope. Pope Francis is leading Catholics to an eternity in hell with a false Jesus whom they worship and recrucify in the wafer when Jesus said it was finished on the cross. The Jesuit pope is also speeding up ecumenical work and successfully wooing the “separated brethren” back, undoing the Reformation. The pope will undoubtedly point his followers to the Antichrist, the false Man of Peace.

Right now those who believe that the church will be raptured out before the last seven years are stepping up their attack on the belief that the Rapture could occur at some other time in the last seven years. Some attacks are quite scathing. We are told in Scripture that Christians will not face the wrath of God, and in Revelation 6 it is clear that God begins to pour out His wrath between the last two seals. These pretribbers will be in utter confusion when they find themselves facing the Antichrist and a vastly increased persecution of Christians. (Rev 6:9-10)

Now is the time for us all to re-examine what we have been taught about the last seven years and no matter how sure we may be about our beliefs, to plead with God to show us anything we are holding on to that does not line up with His Word and would lead us into trouble in the dark days ahead. THIS IS URGENT!

We are told to earnestly contend for the faith, “to reprove, rebuke, exhort, and them that sin, rebuke before all.” (2 Tim 4:2; 1 Tim 5:20) Surely there is no greater sin against God and His people than to lead them astray with false doctrine. – TBC

Pope Francis says that the Muslim invasion of Europe should be embraced. He assured Europe that Europe has always been able to overcome, go ahead “then find themselves as increased by the exchange between cultures.” The pope then went on to say that Europe needs a “healthy secularism” where all religious points of view are tolerated and accepted.” He also said, “Let us put aside the religious dimension” and let us “make an appeal to all humanity.”

From October the European Union is proposing visa-free travel from Turkey to the EU’s Schengen area as part of a deal. The agreement also means that illegal immigrants who enter Europe via Turkey will be returned to Turkey. The details will be worked out at a March 17 summit. There are many critics of the deal. Some say that lifting the visa requirements means rewarding a government that is sliding towards authoritarianism. Turkey’s population is approaching 80 million of which 95-99% are Muslim. These Muslims will then be able to travel visa-free to Europe.

Preparing for a coming One World Order! Kindergarten students in a New York public school were asked to create an American flag with the flags of 22 other nations superimposed over the stripes. Below the flag were the words, “We pledge allegiance to an International Flag.”

As in the days of Lot! The Swedish Liberal People’s Party youth coalition is currently arguing for incest and necrophilia to be legalized.

Many Christians are starting to pray as they become aware of the huge implications of a forthcoming High Court Case on April 26. The case centres on the interpretation of the Education Act and how this could possibly affect RI in the future. Under the Education Act 1964 primary schools can provide RI classes under certain conditions. RI encourages students to engage with a particular religion, without making a decision to accept it on a personal level. It is the decision of each School’s Board of Trustees whether an RI programme is offered at their school or not. A programme may include one offered by the Churches Education Commission (CEC) or other religious classes, not necessarily Christian.

CEC has been accepted as an ‘interested non-party’ to the case. The CEC is the largest provider of RI programmes in NZ with over 650 schools involved. CEC has two core products: Christian Religious Education (formerly known as Bible in Schools) and Champions (large-group style programme). Each school decides which programme is best for their students. CEC represents 16 major Christian church denominations and has over 2,500 active volunteers.
