The Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone He wishes.” (Dan 4:17) “He sets up kings and deposes them.” (Dan 2:21)

“The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own heads.” (Oba 15)

You are probably aware by now how a good number of calamities have fallen on America whenever they have pushed Israel to divide up her land, the land God has given them. God says it is His land. (Joel 3:2)

Both British MP David Cameron and the EU have been pushing hard this year for Israel to hand over land to the Palestinians. In February Cameron “branded Israel’s construction of illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land as “genuinely shocking.”” Whose land! What illegal settlements?

The European Union likewise has severely criticised “Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territories” and is pushing a two-state solution.

Obadiah warns that what you do to Israel will come back on your own head. So we shouldn’t be surprised that Cameron’s and the EU’s attempts to split Israel would result in both Britain and the EU being split. God has used His scalpel to make a precise incision between Scotland and England and between Britain and the EU. Now people in a number of other European countries are calling for referendums too so there may be further splits even though the foreign ministers of France and Germany are talking about forming an EU superstate.

There is chaos and confusion everywhere. The major parties in Britain are in disarray, and the EU is trying desperately to keep itself from falling further apart.

The Bible tells us that in the end times the Antichrist will establish some sort of One World System. As you can imagine, prophecy buffs are wondering where this split is headed. Some believe it will lead to an unravelling of the EU, leaving it with 10 nations out of which the Antichrist would arise. (Dan 7:7) Billionaire Soros has called for a thorough reconstruction of the EU in order to save it, even though he warned that Britain’s vote to leave the bloc makes “disintegration of the EU practically irreversible.”

Another outcome of the breakdown of the EU could well be a collapse of the global economy which is already teetering on the brink. On the Friday and Monday around US$3 trillion was erased from the value of global sharemarkets. In NZ $2.8 billion was wiped off the stock exchange. More countries are facing financial crises, with people desperate for food in Venezuela, and Rio de Janeiro has issued an order declaring a financial state of emergency as the Olympics draw near.

Before I shifted my views on the timing of the Rapture, I used to listen to JD Farag’s prophecy talks. Then as the Feast of Trumpets approached he strongly pushed the idea that the Rapture was going to take place then. He said he felt it in his spirit. I failed to be a good Berean and was emotionally manipulated into believing him. Of course, the Rapture never happened then and I felt very, very let down. I listened to him instead of what Jesus said in Luke 21:25-28, that you will see celestial and terrestrial signs when your redemption is about to take place.

Recently someone forwarded me a link to Farag speaking on the pretrib Rapture and wanted to know my opinion. So here I’ll go over some of the arguments he used for his view and why I can’t find Scriptural or other support for them.

He mentions talking to Jan Markell about the number of vicious attacks on the pretrib view. I’ve seen quite a few unpleasant attacks now on other views! There is no reason for vicious attacks. These differences are not basic doctrinal ones and can be discussed in a civil way as some are doing now. I do not separate from people with other views, but would like everyone to search things out for themselves and make sure they can support their view.

One thing Farag says is that if you place the Rapture anywhere but at the beginning of the 7-year tribulation, you get dangerously close to the false teaching of replacement theology, the teaching that the church has replaced Israel. Pretribbers teach that God treats the church and Israel separately. God deals with the church only during the church age that began with Pentecost, and then the church will disappear at the beginning of the 7 years and then God will turn His attention to the Jews again then.

It doesn’t take much to see what is wrong with this argument. There was a transition period at the beginning of the church age when God dealt with both Jews and the church. God destroyed the Temple in the Church age, and He also dealt with the Jews again in the Bar Kokhba revolt (132-135 AD) when the Jews fought again against the Roman Empire and lost in their attempt to regain Jerusalem as a homeland. They were finally sent out into the diaspora as was prophesied.

In the last century we have seen another transition period as God has moved to free the land of Israel (WWI), return it to the Jews in 1948 (outcome of WWII), and many miracles which have protected Israel in wars since then.

In the light of this, it is impossible to say that God does not deal with the church and Israel at the same time. If God can deal with Israel during the church age, He can certainly deal with Christians during the last 7 years.

Farag raises a popular claim that because the word ‘church’ does not appear from Revelation 4-19 it is not there. The word ‘church’ does not appear in some epistles and not even in the main Rapture passage in 1 Thessalonians 4 either. There is a large multiple of people in heaven but they are not called the church. The churches mentioned in the early chapters of Revelation are all historical churches that existed at that time and contained both true believers and those who would not be overcomers. True believers form just part of the church. A very common word for the bride of Christ in the epistles is saints, and this word appears again a number of times in Revelation 4-19. In Revelation 19:8 the word saints is used for the bride of Christ, not church.

Farag correctly mentions that God has an everlasting covenant with the Jews so that He is not through with them yet. Then he goes on to say that God has a covenant with us to. This is impossible to find in Scripture! In Jeremiah 31:31 God makes it clear that the new covenant is with Israel. In Romans 11 Paul makes it absolutely clear that Christians are grafted into the root which is Israel. Farag is reading into Scripture things which simply aren’t there (eisegesis)! We only have our position in Christ through Israel’s covenant. We are not to be arrogant!

Farag, like other pretribbers, does not make some obvious divisions in the 70th week. He says that Scripture makes it clear that the 70th week is the time of Jacob’s trouble, not the time of the church’s trouble. Scripture certainly doesn’t make this clear to me! At the beginning of the 7 years there will be relative peace for the Jews as the Antichrist appears and they are allowed to build the Temple and begin worship there. According to Daniel 9, an abomination of desolation will be set up in a wing of the Temple. In Matthew 24:15-21, Jesus says that when those in Judea (‘West Bank’) see this, as spoken of by Daniel, they are to flee to the mountains because then there will be a time of great distress unequalled from the beginning of the world until now. In the King James Bible Jesus calls it the ‘great tribulation.’ This is when real trouble begins for the Jews, not at the start of the 70th week.

There is also another division where the Day of the Lord begins. From Joel 2:30-31, God will show great wonders in the heavens and on the earth before the Day of the Lord. We find these signs again In Revelation 6:12-17 followed by God pouring out His wrath on the Antichrist’s kingdom. Jesus says to look up when you see these signs as your redemption is drawing near. (Luke 21:25-28) Wrath and tribulation are two different Greek words and all Christians are told to expect tribulation but not wrath. As you can see, it is not possible to simply label all the last seven years as a homogenous ‘tribulation.’

Farag also connects the voice speaking like a trumpet to John with the trumpet at the time of the Rapture as described in 1 Corinthians 15:52. Any assumption that it is the same trumpet is again reading things into the text that aren’t there. Because there is not a single text to support a pretrib Rapture in Scripture, pretribbers must read things into Scripture to support their views.

We are seeing the signs of the times speeding up at an incredible rate now. It is imperative that we spend more time in the Word and prayer and cry out to God for a deeper understanding of what is coming so that we can avoid deception.

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” (Matt 12:43-45)

This warning appears to apply to nations who turn away from their Christian foundations too. In the US, witchcraft and Satanism are growing by leaps and bounds and nothing is secret anymore. The leaders of the occult are increasingly being accepted as spiritual experts who meet the needs of clients and can tap into their extensive access to supernatural spirit powers and hidden knowledge.

In Switzerland, the opening of the 57 km long Gotthard Base tunnel in the presence of European dignitaries was a purely satanic event. A man dressed as a goat presided over a strange ritual. The ceremony was creepy and some have pointed out the occult symbolism throughout.

In response to the Orlando terrorist attack at a gay night club in which 49 people were killed, a large Southern Baptist Church (First Baptist) held an ecumenical service in which the LGBTQ community was called the chief cornerstone. The Word of God was grossly twisted to honour gays. It was all about love, unity and political correctness. Members of the LGBTQ community were invited to the front to be prayed for. There was no presentation of the gospel message. One speaker quoted “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life” and said that LGBTQ’s weren’t excluded followed by shouts of “Amen” from the audience.

In London, the Anglican St James Church in Piccadilly invited more than 400 Muslims as well as followers of other faiths for a grand interfaith Iftar dinner (breaks the daily fast during Ramadan) and invited London’s new Mayor, Muslim Sadiq Khan as guest speaker. The church also organised a prayer session and church leaders fasted alongside Muslims to promote interfaith harmony.

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA had as the first order of business a prayer offered to Allah. The prayer was arranged by the Ecumenical and Interfaith ministry staff. The prayer of the Muslim representative, Walid Said began, “Allah bless us and bless our families and bless our Lord. Lead us on the straight path – the path of all the prophets: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad.” Chrislam is a combination of Christianity and Islam.
