THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD! (Jeremiah 7-8)
The Bible makes it absolutely clear that a Third Temple will be built and that the Antichrist, indwelt by Satan, will occupy it. The last biblical record of Satan’s throne is that it existed in Pergamum in Turkey. (Rev 2:13) The physical part of it is now in a museum in Berlin, but that doesn’t mean that is where Satan is.
Somehow, according to Scripture, a new temple will be built in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount, but exactly how God will bring that about remains a mystery. We know that God can act quickly, as seen by the speed at which the Soviet Union disintegrated and the Berlin Wall came down.
At the moment, Jordan and the Jordanian Waqf that controls Muslim activities on the Temple Mount, and the Palestinians are very much against Jewish activity on the Mount. In October, the 21-state member of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee will vote on a joint Jordanian-Palestinian draft decision denying any Jewish affinity with the Mount, including the Western Wall. Israel was outraged by the news. Throughout the entire document, Israel is repeatedly alluded to as an occupying force. Jewish and Christian ties to the Mount are being ignored. However, UNESCO’s Director-General Irina Bokova says that to deny or conceal any of the Jewish, Christian or Muslim traditions undermines the integrity of the site. The meeting was scheduled to take place in Turkey but was cancelled because it coincided with the coup in July. It was obviously not God’s timing for such a significant decision to be made. Our eyes will now be on October.
Many Jews, however, remain optimistic about having a rebuilt Jewish temple. A 2013 poll found that one third of Israelis believe that Israel should erect a temple on the Temple Mount. Preparations for it are well advanced: plans, priestly garments, furnishings, selection of priests and their training, correct preparation of bread, etc. Schools in Israel study the intricate Temple laws.
The Temple Mount Jewish rights activist Yehuda Glick is Likud’s newest member of Knesset and will certainly use that position to promote the temple.
The Bible describes a coming time when a temple will be the centre of world peace and people of the nations will stream up to it. The nations will “beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” (Isa 2) And “my house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” (Isa 56:7)
Many Jews believe that the world has lost its direction without a temple and see the need for it in order for world peace to come. Many pray and fast hoping that the Third Temple will come soon.
You might be interested to know that the Qur’an says that Allah gave the land of Israel to the Jews and will restore them to it at the end of days. Many early Muslim intellectuals believed this and some do today as well.
There is a prominent Muslim Turk who would like to see a temple built as a house of prayer for all nations. Adnan Oktar is an intellectual and author with over 65 million of his books in circulation worldwide. He hosted a gathering of Israeli rabbis and called for an end to anti-Jewish sentiment in the Islamic world, saying he looks forward to the rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem. Other Muslims and Christian representatives were present as well. He said to the gathered assembly, “We pray to the Almighty Creator, that you harken to our Call. Together – each according to his or her ability – we shall work towards the building of the House of Prayer for All Nations on the Temple Mount in peace and mutual understanding.”
Oktar has read the Bible (with some rather interesting interpretations!) and knows that Isaiah 56:7 says that one day there will be a house of prayer for all nations. But he has the timing wrong. Oktar is looking for the Antichrist’s temple as described in 2 Thessalonians 2, Revelation 11 and by Jesus in Matthew 24.
Orthodox Jews have a quandary. Since the destruction of the temple in 70AD they have not been able to make sacrifices for their sins. Rabbinical Judaism is now based on prayer and good works as they do not recognise that their Messiah has already come and has brought salvation with Him. They desperately want a temple and have been deceived into thinking that a temple will solve their problems. They are like the Jews before they were exiled to Babylon. Because they had the temple they thought they were safe. Jeremiah tells them, “Do not trust in deceptive words and say, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!”” (Jer 7:4) The religious Jews today who believe that a temple will solve their problems have not only rejected the Word of the Lord but Jesus too. (Jer 8:9) When the temple is built, they will end up like the Jews before the captivity and say, “Peace, peace,” where there is no peace. But God says “See, I will send venomous snakes among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they will bite you.” (Jer 8)
Satan needs this temple! He wants to indwell his chosen Antichrist and take the place of God in the temple and be worshipped by the world. Those who reject the Word of the Lord will follow him and be bitten. Jesus is the snake charmer and the only way to be protected from the snake’s venom is to put your trust in Him now.
Unfortunately, too, many churches today are like the temple before the Babylonian invasion. They think they are safe because of their large buildings, their programmes, their feel-good experiences, their false unity, but they too have rejected the Word of the Lord and have fallen into false teachings.
“Will you … stand before me in this house… and say, “We are safe” – safe to do all these detestable things? Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the Lord.” (Jer 7:10-11)
What should Christians make of Pokémon Go which has become a sensation in countries where it has been released? It is a video game which blends the real world and the digital world together and players wander around with their phones looking for monsters to capture and train. Those familiar with it say that it is riddled with occult concepts quite contrary to Scripture such as “magical stones”, teleportation, ghosts, all-seeing eye, psychic power and using spirits to achieve results in the real world.
Of special concern is that children are being trained to “capture” demon-like creatures, train and control them, and use them against others. This is similar to what many high-level occultists attempt to do with real demons. The psychic type of Pokémon is among the strongest in the game and people can teach these creatures to do their will.
There are not only spiritual dangers, there are practical ones too as people are required to visit real places. People are being led to places, often in very large numbers as happened in New York in the middle of the night when a rare Pokémon appeared there, showing that the game could easily be used to manipulate people to certain places for nefarious purposes including terrorism. There have already been robberies and chaos at Pokémon Go locations.
The Washington Post reports that Pokémon Go players are being led to churches or at least their parking lots because they seem to be places where they can stock up on Poké Balls used to capture the creatures. Pastors are wondering how they can make the most of Pokémon Go addicts sitting on the church doorsteps.
There are sure to be Christians who will say it is harmless, as with Harry Potter. But all the dangers of Harry Potter apply equally to Pokémon Go. People will be drawn into that world and by thinking about it and talking about it they begin to identify with the characters in such a way that they become real to the person.
Colouring books are one of the latest fads. There is no inherent harm in them and Christian ones with Bible verses are certainly a better alternative to watching mindless television. Just make sure that a good Bible translation is used and not a paraphrase such as The Message. It is also a good idea to read the whole passages the verses come from.
Be warned, however, that some are tools for New Age meditation. These contain patterns called “mandalas.” You will be encouraged to keep looking at these “sacred circles” which are designed to take you visually to their centres to discover your higher self. So if you are planning to buy any, especially for another person, check them out carefully first.

WILL THERESA MAY BE GOOD FOR BRITAIN?
Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch is very concerned about Britain’s new Prime Minister’s policies. Spencer was banned by Theresa May from entering Britain for the crime of correctly noting that Islam has doctrines involving violence against unbelievers. As head of the UK Home Office, May announced a review of Britain’s Sharia courts, and then appointed Muslims to oversee it. This drew protests from human rights activists concerned that her review board would be too biased to note the court’s violations of women’s rights. May also disregarded warnings about security risks and scrapped an aerial surveillance program that had been designed to stop migrants from sneaking into Britain. With May heading the Home Office, the British government helped illegal immigrants quash convictions for fraud and other crimes, so that they could stay in the country. She has also claimed that the Islamic State’s actions have absolutely no basis in anything written in the Qur’an. Spencer is concerned she may push Britain off the edge.
China Aid reports that Government authorities in China’s central Guizhou province are reportedly cracking down on young Christians, warning they will be barred from attending college and entering the military if they don’t stop going to church. If parents bring their children to church they will be sued. No children under the age of 18 may receive any religious education.
The US Park Police called an early end to the ecumenical event Together 2016 after about 400 people needed medical attention related to the heat. The event brought together over 40 faith leaders and recording artists and drew thousands. Someone described it as being a festival of apostasy. Pope Francis made an appeal for unity in a videotaped message in which he held up t-shirt with TOGETHER written on it and invited people to wear it in unison.
As in the days of Lot: Nearly half of Americans now believe it is morally acceptable for people to ‘identify with a gender different from their birth sex,’ according to a LifeWay Research survey released in July.
According to the Gatestone Institute, the good news from the failed coup in Turkey is that it is not a third world dictatorship run by an unpredictable military general who loves to crush dissent. The bad news is that Turkey is run by an unpredictable, elected president who loves to crush dissent.
