WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE, WHO WILL BE LOYAL IN THE LAST DAYS?
It is becoming harder to find people willing to stand up for the truth of God’s Word and stay loyal to Jesus. It seems as if God is testing the church and sifting it, to sort out those who will form the true bride of Christ and who won’t. The church as we see it now is different from the one that Jesus will rescue on His return. It will be tested through persecution and come out shining, sanctified and holy, faithful to the Lord who redeemed it by His precious blood.
The apostle Paul tells us that everything that was written in the past was written to warn us. (1 Cor 10:11-12) We learn an important lesson from King Saul. When he was instructed to kill the Amalekites he was told to kill all the cattle and sheep too. However Saul spared the best of the cattle and sheep. Saul’s disobedience grieved the Lord. Saul thought that he could make use of these ill-gained animals to worship the Lord. Samuel told Saul that to obey is better than worship. But because Saul rejected the word of the Lord, he was rejected as king. (1 Sam 15) This is a stern warning to us to be loyal to God in every way and not hang on to things that look good and right to us but are evil in the sight of the Lord.
We are warned about a huge deception that will enter the church in the last days. The Antichrist will not appear until this apostasy happens. (2 Thess 2:3) We see it rising in so many churches now as Satan forms his bride. There is a well-advanced Laodicean church that thinks it has got everything right, but Jesus wants to spit it out of his mouth. (Rev 3:16) Millions of so-called evangelicals have been led by blind guides and have become blind themselves, too lazy to check teachings by the plumbline of Scripture and instead rely on how they feel about things. They don’t want anything to ruffle them and take away their false sense of peace.
There are many warnings about false teachers. ”For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” (2 Tim 4:3-4) This is so true now. Verse by verse exposition of the Bible is disappearing as sermons become little more than comfortable motivational talks without the power of the Holy Spirit. These people will be totally ill-prepared for what is shortly to come.
Persecution is coming. Jesus tells us that a time is coming when Christians will be hated by all nations because of Him. There will be false prophets in abundance deceiving people. (Matt 24:9-13) Many Christians in Muslim and Communist countries already worship in underground churches and house groups because of persecution. In America there has been a huge increase in the number of house churches as those loyal to Jesus find it harder to find churches where the truth is taught, where there is no leaven and compromise, and where God is worshipped in spirit and truth. Jesus is looking for a faithful bride.
Sheep are dumb animals prone to wander. Today’s shepherds have a huge responsibility to protect the flock. How often do we find pastors warning their congregations about the flood of apostate literature in so-called Christian bookshops? How often do they name specific authors who are immensely popular but lead people from the truth? Pastors are not preparing the sheep. They don’t like to name names or judge when they should be judging and are often sadly misled themselves. They want to avoid anything that is controversial.
Here are a couple of apostate best-sellers found in “Christian” bookshops:
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young became a #1 New York Times bestseller. There are now at least 7 different versions of it, for kids, teens, women, etc. Young has now written another devotional called Jesus Always which will no doubt become a best seller too. Warren B. Smith has written a booklet 10 Scriptural Reasons Why Jesus Calling is a Dangerous Book. Young’s devotional is written as if Jesus Himself is speaking. Its popularity is a good example of the lack of discernment in the church today. Young wrote this devotional after reading the New Age book God Calling which was channelled by a spirit guide. In the original introduction to the book (it has since been changed) she made it clear that “Jesus” was training her “to be a channel of My loving presence.” Her words often contradict the Bible and she uses flattery to seduce undiscerning readers. Yet, even after being presented with damning evidence of how dangerous it is, pastors continue to praise it.

Another very dangerous offering is Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life which remains a best-seller. It was first published in 2002 and by 10 years later 32 million copies had been sold and had been translated in to 50 different languages. Warren claimed that it was second only to the Bible in numbers sold. It is still a best seller and followed by many.
This book contains such false teachings as that prophecy should be ignored, it promotes Catholic mystics, and promotes New-Ager occultist Bernie Siegel who has a spirit guide and gives hope to his cancer patients. It also contains a prayer for sinners that has nothing to do with repentance. He writes, “Right now, God is inviting you to live for his glory by fulfilling the purposes he made you for… Real life begins by committing yourself completely to Jesus Christ. If you are not sure you have done this, all you need to do is receive and believe… Will you accept God’s offer?… Wherever you are reading this, I invite you to bow your head and quietly whisper the prayer that will change your eternity: ‘Jesus, I believe in you and I receive you.’ Go ahead. If you sincerely meant that prayer, congratulations! Welcome to the family of God!” Sadly, many are given a false assurance of salvation. We are asked to make disciples, not converts. There is no call to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour of their lives. The devil believes in Jesus too.
But there is more to Rick Warren than that. In 2008 he gave a key-note address to a sold out banquet audience at the 8th annual Muslim Public Affairs Council convention and in 2009 addressed the convention of the Islamic Society of North America. At both events his message was about working together to promote peace and solve global problems. At neither event was the gospel presented.
He was building on his words at the Pew Forum on Religion in 2005 when he said the following: “Who’s the man of peace in any village – or it might be a woman of peace – who has the most respect, they’re open and they’re influential? They don’t have to be a Christian. In fact, they could be a Muslim, but they’re open and they’re influential and you work with them to attack the five giants. And that’s going to bring the second Reformation.” He promoted his P.E.A.C.E. plan to Muslims which has nothing to do with the peace of God but which is all about working together with anyone to promote peace on earth without Jesus. P.E.A.C.E. stands for P romoting reconciliation (changed in 2007 from planting churches), E quip leaders, A ssist the poor, C are for the sick, E ducate the next generation. Neither E stands for evangelism.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Warren has joined up with Pope Francis in support of a common mission. He says, “If you love Jesus,” he said, “we’re on the same team.” In one video message he lays out his reasons for why all Christian denominations should be united under Rome, and in another he referred to Francis as “our pope.” He totally ignores that fact that Catholics have a totally different Jesus and way of salvation which does not recognise the completed work of Jesus on the cross.
Warren is sadly leading millions of Christians astray and pastors continue to promote him and believe they can learn from him. Unfortunately, Warren is promoting a one world religion and believes that we can obtain peace on earth by our own efforts. As he is looking for “a man of peace” he is ripe to receive the Antichrist when he appears with a counterfeit peace.

Christian bookshops are now full of enticing material designed to wean undiscerning Christians away from the truth. Those who go after them are like King Saul. They do some of what God requires of them, but “the best of the cattle and sheep” is too big a temptation for them. God hates mixtures and wants your full loyalty. Note what happened to Saul when he disobeyed: God rejected him as king so he lost his crown. Jesus says, “I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” (Rev 3:11) Many today are in danger of losing that crown.
Jesus is looking for those who are on His side and will be loyal to Him in these last days without any compromise. He wants people who are fully committed to Him and passionate about Him and His Word and the truth.
The 31st of October was the 499th commemoration of Luther’s Reformation. Pope Francis visited Sweden and signed a joint statement with the Lutheran World Federation Church for “full unity.” They pledged to pursue their dialogue in order to remove the remaining obstacles that hinder reaching full unity. Also stressed was their commitment to common witness on behalf of the poor, the needy and the victims of injustice. In the next year leading up to the 500th commemoration of the Reformation you can expect to see numerous Protestant and Evangelical leaders bowing before the Roman Catholic pope and leading the flock astray.
The FBI (US) has rescued nearly 100 exploited children and arrested more than 200 adults in what has become an annual international effort to target sex traffickers. Operation Cross Country resulted in the recovery of 82 children and arrest of 239 suspects in what likely represents a small portion of child exploitation cases in the country, FBI officials say.
The 45,000 Christians who fled Iraq to escape the brutality of Islamist extremists are now facing persecution in Turkey. They live in deprivation in villages and slums surrounded by distrustful Muslim residents. They have been warned not to reveal their faith or even wear crosses because their Muslim neighbours might discover they are Christians and force them out. Local Muslim charities and even mosques would also refuse to help them if their Christian identity was revealed. They would like to settle in a country like the US where they would be free to practice their faith and live peaceful lives, but the US State Department is not doing anything to help them settle in the US or in any other safe country.
Hungary has become the first government to open an office specifically to address the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and Europe. Today, Christianity has become the most persecuted religion, where out of five people killed for religious reasons, four of them are Christians. In 81 countries around the world, Christians are persecuted, and 200 million Christians live in areas where they are discriminated against. Millions of Christian lives are threatened by followers of radical religious ideologies.
More than 1.5 million Germans, many of them highly educated, have left Germany during the past decade. A real estate agent in a popular tourist destination in western Hungary said that 80% of the Germans relocating there cite the Muslim migration crisis as the main reason for their desire to leave Germany.
